1. Is each call matched to a specific striker?
Yes, each call is matched to a specific striker. Even though we strive for each striker to behave the same, it simply never happens. Even with our pots machined to extremely tight tolerances, we still have differences in sound from call to call. We reject calls and strikers that do not meet our extremely high expectations. 2. How do you care for each type of calling surface?
Each surface has different care requirements, and this is covered in the video located here(hyperlink).
Here is a quick look at the materials used to condition each surface in case you do not want to watch the video. Each call comes with all the needed conditioning materials for that specific surface. The most important thing to remember is never touch the call on the playing surface with your hands, because this contaminates the surface with oils and other contaminates.
- Glass or Crystal
- Conditioning Stone
- Grey Slate or Green Slate
- Maroon Scotch Brite Pad
- Ceramic
- Conditioning Stone or Alcohol Pad (This is personal preference, but we recommend using out conditioning stone to rough up the playing surface initially and then alcohol wipes to maintain it)
3. How do I care for my strikers?
Striker maintenance is very simple to do by using a small piece of maroon Scotch Brite. Place the striker tip on the Scotch Brite and rotate the striker into the pad to clean off any contaminates. Use care when handling your Scotch Brite because this can inadvertently transfer oils from your hand to the strikers. Back to Top
4, What type of call should I buy?
This may sound like something a call making company would say, but diversity is a big deal in the turkey woods. Most serious turkey hunters carry a wide array of calls in their vests. Some situations require the subtly of a grey slate, while other scenarios need the ability to get loud and aggressive.
If I had to rate our current call lineup from the most subtle to the most aggressive, it would look like this:
- Welcome Wagon
- Cutover Queen
- Bottomland Brawler
- Smoke Signal
- Timber Temptress
- Carbon Cutter
5. If I am buying a striker alone, how do I know which type to get?
This is another question with the stereotypical call maker’s answer! Diversity is often the key to success in the turkey woods. You can take the same call and get several different sounds from it simply by using different strikers. Most serious turkey hunters carry two or three strikers for each call to allow them the versatility they need. Here is a video on all the strikers we offer at this time.
6. If I am buying a call as a gift, what type of call should I get?
Each turkey hunter is different, and everyone has their own styles of playing. We have friends that will not run anything other than a grey slate, while we have others that will run anything and everything. For this reason, we would recommend buying a gift certificate and let the recipient choose by listening to sound files. Back to Top
7. How should I store my calls in the offseason?
Our machined and anodized aluminum pots are not as susceptible to temperature and humidity fluctuations as other materials. With that being said, the calling surfaces themselves can be influenced by high humidity and extreme temperature. It is always advised to keep them someplace where the temperatures and humidity levels will not get too extreme. Back to Top
